Sara Cate’s Salacious Player’s Club series is my comfort smut. I have read Praise at least 4 times in the last year. I owned signed copies of all the books. I own the audiobooks. I have stickers of the characters. I LOVE this kinky series! Book 4, Mercy, was supposed to be the last book in the series, but she decided to write 2 more, and I almost wept with joy. I have never raced to pre-order anything so quickly in my life.
Highest Bidder focuses on 56-year-old billionaire, Ronan Kade and his relationship with Daisy, a 21-year-old cocktail waitress at the sex club he frequents. Throughout the previous books of the series, Ronan has been a mysterious background character, only popping up to give random advice like, “Love isn’t shit. It’s not worth a damn thing. But time, attention, priority… those things are real, and until a man gives you those, don’t give him the time of day, beautiful.” I mean, damn! We readers loved him even before he got his own book! Daisy is a brand-new character to the series, but she is immediately endearing. One night, she makes a bet with her friend, the bartender, that she will be able to predict which woman Ronan will take home. If she is wrong, she has to auction herself off for a date. Of course, she is wrong, she has to enter the auction, and Ronan bids on her. The weird thing is that he doesn’t take her up on the date. He won her because he got a weird vibe from the other guy who was bidding. That night, Ronan runs into Daisy late at night at a gas station and realizes that she is living in her car. He makes her come and stay in his penthouse, and they develop a strong friendship. Which leads to more because DUH this is a Romance Novel!
Honestly, I have a really hard time with books that romanticize billionaires. It’s the raging socialist in me. However, Sara Cate manages to make me get over my preconceptions that all rich men are assholes. I’m also an absolute sucker for an age-gap romance, and it doesn’t hurt that the cover model for Ronan is absolutely gorgeous. His Instagram is wander_gray_wolf. I’m just posting that here for….research purposes…yeah….
Anyway, Ronan and Daisy have lots and lots and LOTS of sex, and if you hate the use of the word Daddy, this is NOT the book for you. If you hate spanking and other kinky stuff, this is NOT the series for you. However, if you like books with a bit of a slow burn and some intense longing, Sara Cate is the author for you. I can’t wait until Madame comes out in the Fall!
