Viv is an Orc who has splattered one skull too many. She abandons her life as the muscle of an adventuring party and opens a coffee shop in a small town. The only problem is that nobody has ever heard of coffee. Luckily the concept catches on quickly, and after hiring some help, and attracting some regular customers, her new shop, Legends and Lattes is a success.
Viv is a great character. Who can’t identify with wanting to change their life plan, put down roots, and do something they really love? You have to fall in love with a book that has a shy mouse-type creature as a genius baker, a la Ratatouille. This book definitely fits the found family trope as well.
This became a viral BookTok sensation for a reason. It is the ultimate palatte cleanser. It is the very definition of cozy fantasy. I can only read so many books where the the fate of the multiverse is at stake. Or angsty and dramatic romances that leave my heart hurting. It’s exhausting! There is a smalllllll amount of sapphic romance, but it is super cute. Cozy fantasy books have low stakes, great characters, and create a world that I just want to live in. There is some conflict, but it is very mild. I read this book in one day and this will definitely be a comfort book for me to re-read in the future. I wish a had a great local coffee shop like this near me!
