This book is like a hug for your soul. And since I listened to the audio book, for the ears. I loved Thursday Murder Club, and when some trusted fellow readers told me the second one was even better, I was skeptical. But it’s so good! I love Joyce. I love Elizabeth. I love Ron and Ibrihim. Did I mention I love Joyce?
The plot doesn’t really matter; it’s enough to get to hang out with these wonderful characters. But, in case you need more convincing: Elizabeth’s ex-husband shows up, hiding out in the retirement community where our heroes live, saying he needs her help because he stole some diamonds from a mob boss. There are murders, secret messages, mafia bad guys, local drug-dealing bad guys, MI5 investigators who keep getting annoyed when Elizabeth figures things out before they do, and a delightful collection of side characters (Ron’s grandson!). Plus, Chris and Donna are back, a little sidelined this time, but with just the right amount of weight to add to the story.
Like the first book, there are some sad bits, but they just serve to make the good bits that much more important. This incredible foursome has lived through some shit, and some perfectly normal life stuff, and they know to enjoy the sweetness of life when it’s offered, whether it’s adventuring with best friends, a compliment on a new cardigan, or thwarting criminals.
Highly, highly recommended. I can’t wait for the third book. We all need more Joyce in our lives!
This was gifted to me through Audible by a dear friend, so I don’t have a book picture. Instead, here are her handsome furballs, Max and Linus!
