This book began with an interesting premise: there is some sort of outbreak on a small island off the coast of Maine. The only inhabitants left on the island are remnants of an all-girls boarding school, guarded by a fence, some guns, and their teachers. The girls slowly start to mutate with unexplainable systems, and so does the wildlife on the other side of the fence.
This book felt similar to Lord of the Flies. Who is in charge? Why are they in charge? Is the government a friend or foe, and how do the girls heal or get off the island? How did this happen?
Unfortunately, this was a cool concept but ultimately forgettable. I don’t even remember how it ended and I finished this book two weeks ago. Now maybe I have bad short term memory, or maybe this was just a book that didn’t stick with me. Hopefully, others enjoyed this book more than I did.
Some people are clamoring for a sequel. I am not one of those people. I thought the ending was perfectly fine and can use my imagination to figure out what happens next.
