I love re-reading books and one of the Steven King novels that I love most is “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon”. To many, it might seem quite boring as it mainly features a young girl lost in the woods. But to me, that’s the best aspect of it. A young female fighting for survival, who must find the inner strength to keep going no matter what, is crack cocaine to me. Kinda reminds me of the first season of The Walking Dead – slow to action but with a purpose
The main character is a pre-teen female, Trisha, going on a hike with her mom and older teenaged brother who gets separated when she decided to pee while they argue with one another. It just gos downhill from there. it’s easy to get lost once you get off the path especially when you’re in the woods in Maine. The only thing keeping her going is thinking of her hero, Red Sox player, Tom Gordon. Hence the name.
It wouldn’t be a King book without some horror in it. The whole time, Trisha feels something hostile and violent following her. And finds evidence of its violence along the way.
I don’t know what it is about King’s book, but I love them. I love ordinary people having something other worldly happen to them and not knowing what’s going to happen. His writing is so crisp and clear that I’m instantly already involved with the story.
