I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is the third and final installment of Rachael Herron’s Ballard Brothers books, where the three brothers build, repair, and sell houses while appearing on a Property Brothers meets The Bachelor-type reality show. The two older brothers have already appeared on the show and gotten together with their partners but the youngest, Jake, has been the feature of several seasons, never quite clicking with the homebuyer they’re working with that time until his ex agrees to appear on the show in exchange for the down payment she can’t otherwise afford as rents are starting to skyrocket in the town she grew up in and currently lives and teaches in.
I’ve loved Rachael Herron’s books for a long time. She’s built a nice little world in the fictional Darling Bay over a few series and I always enjoy my trips back to this town. What I’m not a big fan of are second chance romance stories. They so often boil down to “Would you just talk to one another already?!” and I felt that even the eventual talking part got short-changed in this one. They went from barely speaking to one another, then jumped straight into sex, a few things happened to make us think that the hero finally really got the heroine, and BOOM, we’re done.
