I am basically trash for this author now. I have pre-ordered her m/f Regency romance that is out in April, so hopefully she’s just as good on that as she is with m/m. Fair warning, the next book in this series isn’t out until July and that is 1,000 years away.
Also, this cover isn’t that bad (characters are way overdressed, and one should def be dressed like a vicar because come on, but it’s not ugly), and neither are the last two in her first series, but holy shit, the covers for her next two books are absolute eyesores. The dude on the left for A Gentleman Never Keeps Score looks great, but the dude on the right looks super cheesy and also painted on somehow and his hair is an abomination. Avon, WTF. Get it together, this author is GOLDEN TREAT HER LIKE A QUEEN AND GIVE HER GOOD COVERS PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
Okay, but the book. This book is frickin adorable. Perhaps if you are looking for angst it will not be for you, but if you enjoy stories where the characters are just so incredibly vulnerable emotionally then you will be all over this. Their romance was just so sweet. It’s also got some nice opposites attract, grumpy hero who adores sweet and friendly hero going on, as well as children who are not annoying and who have actual personalities and behave like actual children.
If you’re looking for some angst, though, this author can deliver that and has in the past, and I’m sure in the future, for example the next book in this series, which will feature a character who has a Complicated and Tragic Backstory. He makes an appearance in this one as the brother of the vicar who is so adorable that he attracts baby animals like flies. I wants it now, precious.
