Ok so in book 1, (which I reviewed recently), Anna falls for a sleazy defense attorney, and things go bad. By the end, she’s with the homicide chief attorney. In book 2 (this one), she’s happily domesticated with the homicide chief attorney (he has an actual title, but I really can’t remember it). She’s also back to work a high profile murder case of an escort who was pushed off the balcony of a senator/congressman (shame on me, I don’t know the difference).
I’m not quite into how Anna and Jack (the aforementioned chief homicide attorney / boyfriend) I am. He seems a little bit controlling, although he calls it “protective”. Since I read the fourth book first (yes, it was the 4th book I read 1st, not the 3rd one!) I know how it all ends. I won’t spoil it for everyone else.
Anna is investigating and eventually prosecuting the murder of an expensive call girl – the most sought after escort in DC. Of course nothing is what it seems. Anna looks into the high class escort service “Discretion”, and the ladies involved in it. She’s teamed up with an FBI agent, the DC police force, and the aforementioned homicide chief attorney. The girl who died’s roommate is on the lam, because she thinks she’s in some way responsible for her friend’s murder. So Anna investigates, more people are murdered, Anna’s menaced, and lots of other stuff happens.
I liked it. I like the way Allison writes her characters. All of the women are strong and independent (which I totally approve of), and the men sometimes/mostly listen to them. I just got the real book 3 from the library, so I can’t wait to see how Anna gets to where she was in book 4!
