So I’ve actually had this one on my TBR list since all the way back to CBR5. Someone posted about this fun, light contemporary romance so onto my list it went. Fastforward a few years to an extremely pregnant lady with the attention span of a gnat. This was the perfect book to pick up for a few evenings while trying to make it through some awesome Braxton Hicks.
This is the story of Cade Morgan, Assistant US Attorney extraordinaire, and Brooke Parker, general consul for a restaurant group extraordinaire. Yes, they both are absolutely at the top of their professional game, it’s stated quite regularly. They meet cute when Cade needs to use one of Brooke’s restaurants to set up a sting to catch a crooked state senator. There’s obviously sparks at first sight, and things “progress” from there.
What I really enjoyed about this book was the lack of strum und drang. So many contemporary romances these days have to put in these ridiculous roadblocks, because it’s hard coming up with reasons why two people can’t just be together. Not so here. Both need to overcome some of their personal baggage, and they do so each on their own before they final get together. It’s lovely, refreshing, and perfect for those days when you need some fluff, but can’t handle angst.
Overall this book wasn’t life changing, but it was relaxing and perfect for unwinding. If you’re looking for light and easy in the contemporary romance department Julie James so far appears to be a winner. Now to read more of hers as I keep needing more fluff.
