I always tell people that 1984 is my favorite book (at least that’s what I tell people that I can’t tell the title of my actual favorite book to, “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff Christ’s Childhood Pal.” If I’m honest, I’d put 1984 at number two overall, number one in literary classics) so I figured I should reread it again for the third (fourth?) time to have a firm appreciation of it.
It never fails to blow my mind. The fact that Orwell could have such insight into the modern age when he wrote this in 1949 amazes me. His predictions for technology were very insightful, as well as how monitored we are in these modern times. I’m not talking about government monitoring though, I’m referring to the choices we make when we live our lives on social media.
This book was meant as a wake up call, and I just don’t think we really have ever heard it. If you haven’t read it, do so, and prepare to be changed.
