It’s been almost three years since the first book in this series, Kill Me Softly, was published. I had actually forgotten it even existed, but I really liked the first one, so I decided to read onwards.
It’s nice that you don’t have to read the first book to understand the second. They take place in the same universe, but they focus on different characters, with the same characters in the background. It’s about a city called Beau Rivage where people are cursed to live out fairy tales.
Viv and Henley appeared briefly in Kill Me Softly, and are the focus of Tear You Apart. Viv has the Snow White curse and Henley is her woodsman. So, one day he will be sent to kill her. This has definitely changed the dynamics of their relationship. Viv receives an invitation from her future prince, who invites her to stay in the underworld where she will be safe from Henley and her stepmother. It’s a dilemma, especially because once she is in the underworld, the prince’s father won’t let her leave.
I really like the twists these books put on fairy tales, and I appreciate the snarky characters. You can read my full review here.
