I don’t know, guys. I just don’t know. I don’t get it. I mean, sure, David Sedaris is a writer who writes stuff and it’s kind of funny, but I don’t really “get” it. I’m supposed to be in the right demographic: I’m a cynical gen-Xer with a skewed outlook on life, but I really didn’t find these stories all that funny. They were interesting, but in an “I’m stuck at a dinner party with this guy dominating the conversation” way.
I don’t know if I’d actively seek Mr Sedaris out at a party and ask him what’s up, but if I were eavesdropping on him or seated next to him, it would be a lot more interesting than listening to someone talking about their kid’s sinus infection, or what expensive thing their dog ate (or their dog’s sinus infection or the expensive thing their kid ate).
There were a few times when I laughed out loud. I think I’d really like to read a collection of stories about “The Rooster”. I’m sure Mr Sedaris has a lot of those.
