29 Minutes to Yummy

The 29-Minute Vegan by Isa Chandra Moskowitz

May 23, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

Isa Chandra Moskowitz is probably my favorite cookbook author; the recipes are good, not boring, not too fussy, and you don’t have to wade through pages of narrative to get to each recipe. The 29-Minute Vegan is so titled because “thirty was already taken, and everyone could use an extra minute in their day.” To achieve the general time frame, there are a set of seven general principles including the one that kind made me wonder a little, “prep as you cook, cook as you […]

The Unofficial Harry Potter Vegan Cookbook by Imana Grashuis, Tylor Starr

January 1, 2026 by CoffeeShopReader 3 Comments

Have you ever read a book and started to appreciate it, only for one small detail to ruin the whole thing? When I picked up The Unofficial Harry Potter Vegan Cookbook, it was clearly stated that the book was in no way officially affiliated with the franchise and its author, so that didn’t bother me. The introduction is a little preachy about vegan ethics, but it’s by Evanna Lynch, the actress for Luna Lovegood. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before in vegan cookbooks. The thing […]

Bosh! Meat by Henry Firth, Ian Theasby

September 10, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 18: You Are Here I’m taking this bingo spot as an opportunity to look at a place I am at intellectually and culinarily with a certain type of trend; I’m kind of over the culinary fascination with plant-based meat, and the cookbooks this has spawned. I pre-ordered Bosh! Meat quite a while ago, and now that I’ve got it, I’m kind of over the main premise before I started; however, it turns out that a good chunk of the book actually doesn’t really deal […]

Make your own meat and cheese without involving animals

Fake Meat Real Food for Vegan Appetites by Isa Chandra Moskowitz

February 5, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

It looks like the theme for vegan cooking for early 2023 is make your own meat substitutes. The newest entry to this group is Fake Meat by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. The author is basically the OG of modern approachable vegan cooking. She’s also my only cookbook automatic pre-order any and all new titles. Most previous Isa books are “vegan for beginners” in nature, in that they feature more readily available ingredients and normal cooking standard processes. This time, things gets a little more advanced. There’s […]
