I miss the days when a Pratchett book was just a Pratchett book – brilliant and wonderful and funny and sharp and thought-provoking. Now, rereading A Hat Full of Sky, it’s all those things, but now there’s this overlay of SAD. Sad that we don’t get to see Tiffany Aching grow up. Sad about what happens to Granny Weatherwax. Heartbroken and furious at the universe for what happened to Sir Terry. SIGH. But if you let the Nac Mac Feegle chase away the sad for […]
An emotional but worthwhile journey
There was much less sobbing than I expected, even considering what happens right at the beginning of the book (no spoilers). I am mad at the universe for taking Pratchett from us so soon (especially since I’ve been rereading Douglas Adams and I’m mad about that all over again), but I knew Pratchett wouldn’t let me down. His final Discworld book checks back in with Tiffany Aching, teenage witch and all-around badass. The elves are trying to break out of fairyland and wreak havoc in […]
For You Have Left the World Better than You Found it.
Ok let’s do this. After avoiding the end for as long as I could, I finally read the last book by my favorite author of all time, Terry Pratchett. Terry is a good guy to have as a favorite. His books are witty and charming, full of reappearing characters and, unlike some fantasy writers (I’m looking at you GRRM), appearing at regular intervals. Now he is gone. Taken too soon by the thief of time, Alzheimer’s Disease. The Shepherd’s Crown was released way back in […]
Back in Black
I must confess that this a re-read of this book, but I honestly couldn’t remember much about the plot. Terry Pratchett is my comfort food. I can reread his books over and over and still be entertained and gain deeper understanding of the author and the characters he has created. I have been reluctant to read the final book in this series as it is final book by the author who died last year from Alzheimer’s Disease. So I procrastinated by re-reading I Shall Wear […]
One Last Time
If you are a Discworld fan, you know this is the last book in the series. It’s a Tiffany Aching story and because she’s a witch, the Ramptop witches figure prominently in the story as well. Since this is Terry Pratchett’s last book, one can’t help but think this is his last message to the world. Brace yourself because Granny Weatherwax dies. I’m not really spoiling anything here because it happens at the beginning of the book and is a catalyst for Tiffany’s journey in […]
Land Under Wave
Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching series is one of my all time favorites. I love Tiffany Aching, and aspire to be as mature as she was at 9. Of course, she was written by a grown man, but still, we find our role models where we may. The Wee Free Men is Tiffany’s debut. She is 9, the second to last of a large family who farm and raise sheep on The Chalk, work’s in her family farm’s dairy (which she loves), and watches her baby […]
