Grace McGinty’s Ruffled Feathers: An Omegaverse Romcom makes for such a delightful palate cleanser after some of the truly dark romance that I’ve been reading lately. Romcom is the perfect descriptor for this luscious bonbon. There are multiple meet cutes since it’s a why choose romance. There are amusing high jinx involving adorable animals.
Which is not to say that it’s completely saccharine. There are some mild taboos – the FMC and one of the MMCs are stepsiblings, but their parents didn’t meet and get married until one was in college and the other about to graduate high school. Otillie-James Baler grew up homeschooled by her dad in the wilds of Montana. It came as a great surprise to her when he went away to a conference and came back with a fiancee he’d just met.
Otillie-James, Tillie or OJ or Juice for short, loves animals. So much so that she decides to try and free the roosters from a cock fighting ring she hears about after the police don’t appear to do anything when it’s reported. Want to guess who was the only person found with a rooster tucked in their sweatshirt and arrested when the police came crashing in after all? Want to guess who comes to her rescue? Her stepbrother’s best friend that she’s had a crush on since high school.
I’m not going to go into a lot of detail since I don’t want to give anything else away, other than to say this a really sweet and amusing bonbon of a romance novel with a side of personal growth and healing that grew from patience, love and understanding. If you are looking for a good vacation read or something to turn your brain off while you read, this would be a good choice.
