Wizkit: An Adventure Overdue by Tanya J. Scott is an actually terribly cute story that had a bit more punch than expected. This is a true case of not judging a book by its cover. At first glance I figured it would be silly and not have any real “meat” to it. Yet, I was happily surprised.
The illustrations are sweet and simple, allowing focus to be on the story itself but allows for strong support as well. Things are colorful and draw your eye in. The details within them are fun and add to the overall creativity as they sometimes give you something that the text has not. The text has some “adult” jokes/puns, but are kid-friendly. It is just a subtleness to the wording or the illustration.
The idea of the actual story is not new, but there was something fresh and fun about it that makes it unique, while familiar too. The idea is to come out of your comfort zone, take chances, get messy and experience things. Of course, the magic The fantasy elements are minimal allowing for fantasy and realistic readers to get into. This book is due early April 2024, read via a physical readers copy, this looks like Tanya J. Scott’s first book and I am looking forward to reading more.
I need to write a few more words and will add, though I have not read them, but the series Guardians of Horsa (volume one Legend of the Yearling) Roan Black looks like it would be an equivalent series as would The Cardboard Kingdom by Chad Sell series (which I have read).
