Way back in my college days (so many decades ago!) there was this guy in our dorm who would only eat fruit and nuts that had fallen from a tree on their own. (Oddly enough, it seems as though weed also fell off the plant on its own. Who knew.) So, Daniel, I have no idea whatever happened to you, but cheers.
This book is dedicated to fruitarians, folks who, quite often, eat nothing but. And we aren’t talking about apples and oranges (OK, maybe apples) but all sorts of exotic and unusual fruit, most of which few Americans have ever heard. So why fruit in particular, and not vegetables/grain/etc.? Maybe because fruit is not, with the possible exception of citrus for prevention of scurvy, necessary for the human diet. But there are hundreds of thousands of different varieties of fruit, and unlike most other plant life, they seem to endlessly mutate into other varieties. Most grow in tropical regions and don’t travel well, so they will never show up in our markets, but they are plentiful enough for those in the neighborhood.
Orange cloudberries. White blueberries. Blue apricots. Red Lemons. Golden raspberries. Pink cherimoyas. Willy Wonka’s got nothing on Mother Nature. OK, that does it. Gonna pick up one of those red dragonfruit, that thing in the produce section that looks like a pink alien life form, the next time I’m in the market. No idea how you know if it’s ready to eat, but wish me well. YOLO!
