Corin was just looking for an evening to forget everything. Audric figures one night of indulgence before he’s betrothed won’t hurt. Neither of them were expecting the explosive chemistry between them or the instant connection on a personal level. Of course, Audric had no clue that Corin is his bethrothed’s illegitimate half-brother, and Corin doesn’t discover Audric’s a prince until they meet again the next day at the betrothal ceremony. It’s a political marriage for the good of the country, and both Corin and Audric know they should forget their night together and move on. However, Audric is convinced that something is going on with his betrothed that might be a danger to the kingdom, and Corin might be the key to figuring it out.
This was a great conclusion to this arc in the series. I was almost immediately invested in both Audric and Corin. It helped that we got to meet Audric a little in the first book unlike Bellamy who the reader doesn’t met until his own book. But Corin is also a character that I just immediately was fond of. The plot itself is a little predictable but engaging enough that combined with the characters I really didn’t mind. I also really liked how the whole falling in love with someone while engaged to someone else trope was handled. I typically don’t like that sort of thing but between the fact that it was a political marriage and both parties discussed exclusivity in their relationship made it work for me in this case,
This is also probably the kinkiest of the books. All of the books in this series have a fair amount of sex, but I think this one had the most and the most inventive. All of the books in the series have content warnings, so I’d check those out before reading, but especially for this one. The book also wraps up most of the loose ends that were left from the other three, and was a really strong stopping point for the story. This is the last of books focusing on the Sandry princes, but there’s another three books focusing on the princes of the neighboring country of Draskora, and I plan on checking them out. Four out of five stars.
