I am usually not a huge Fitz and Cleo fan, though I do enjoy them. And even though Cleo can have a lot of “muchness” to her, they are sweet characters that are familiar and cozy. However, even though Cleo is still unapologetically herself (a bit naughty, mischievous, and a smidgen bossy), this book, Fitz and Cleo Put a Party on It was terribly pleasantly sweet and the perfect amount of silly. It is probably my favorite out of the books I have read of this brother and sister ghostly duo.
Yes, this sibling team are adorable ghosts and their book has amusing and adorable illustrations by Heather Fox. The clever and relatable story of being bored, trying to find something everyone can enjoy doing and parties (written by Jonathan Stutzman) is equally adorable. The last few pages perhaps have two of my favorite images of the entire book. The short stories (or actually chapters) are connected, but the chapter format allows for pauses in the reading for your starting reader or to read a chapter a night/or anytime you need a quick treat.
Read via an online reader copy, I actually see myself finding copies to send to friends, family and a library or two. And the great thing about Fitz and Cleo is that while they are ghosts and have a cat named Mister Boo, these books are great reading for anytime of the year, but since Halloween is around the corner, it is a good idea to stock up on them, especially if you do not like spooky stories but like fun.
