Daughter of the Pirate King:
Alosa is only seventeen, but is one of the most feared pirates in the world. The only one more feared is her father, the notorious Pirate King. He has a third of a map to the legendary siren’s treasure, and sends Alosa to pretend to be captured by rival pirates so she can search their ship for another piece. She has a handy trick up her sleeve. Her mother was a siren, so she has the powers of a siren. Once she sings, she can manipulate up to three men at a time to do anything she wishes. Her powers only last as long as she can absorb ocean water. In the sea, she is invincible, but she completely loses her humanity. She was also trained in combat, pistols, sword-fighting, and survival by her father who was merciless. Basically, Alosa is a complete badass bitch.
I really enjoyed this book, and I liked the second one even more.
Daughter of the Siren Queen:
Remember how Alosa was looking for the other two pieces of the treasure map for her father? Well, she found them at the end of the last book, and now her father is gearing up to sail to the island of the sirens and steal their treasure. Alosa is ready to go until she breaks into her father’s study, which she has been forbidden to enter her whole life. There she finds a tied-up captive siren. Not just any siren. Her own mother. Who has been kept captive for Alosa’s entire life. Now, we knew from Alosa’s description of her childhood that her father was a right bastard, but this is too much for even her. She frees her mother and immediately goes on the run from her father. She figures her only chance to survive is to beat him to the siren’s treasure so she can bribe the rest of the pirate army to help her overthrown him and become the new Pirate Queen.
These books were an absolute blast to read and I stayed up all night to finish the second one! I’ve been reading a lot of pirate books lately, and these were a couple of favorites.
