This is the first Benji Nate book they had a part in that I did not enjoy. The concept of Good Boy V01: Good Boy Magazine #1 a Zine format. There are different styles and types of work (done by different authors and/or illustrators) that are included. There is everything from the woman who was once a “Playboy Bunny” like woman to the chapter that had no humanly possible way to read to the one I almost liked until the main character did something truly stupid. There are even ads for other books/items from the publisher (or I am assuming all from the same publisher). It is a magazine that looks like a book.
If I do read Good Boy Magazine #2, I will find it through my library, but something tells me that I won’t. If you like Mad Magazine on crack, this is for you. Also, if you are interested in zines, or graphic novel artwork this would be an interesting study. It just was not for me. And I will investigate Girl Juice just by Benji Nate (due late May 2023), as something tells me I like Nate, but just their solo works.
I should say that Benji Nate is just one of the editors, Michael Sweater had their hand in this pie as well. And while I knew Nate was warped, it was a fun warped. This is not a fun warped. Oh sure I thought it would be as the cover is true Benji Nate, but that was really my favorite part of it. And while I am curious about the story I almost like (as it was a “To Be Continued” story) I am not sure it is worth finding volume two, even if it is a clever spoof of Star Wars/Star Trek/Sci-Fi hero/anti-hero.
