P Is for Purr and for Perfect, and Packed, and Powerful and Pretentious. And only three of those descriptor words are correct to describe this book (if you cannot guess, it is not pretentious). This is an alphabet book that takes basic or common things about cats (they purr for P) and some educational things (X for Xanthus Av Jostedalsbreen or Norwegian Forest Cat) and makes a cute book for cat lovers of all ages.
Carole Gerber and Susanna Covelli must love cats. A lot. I mean, they did a whole book about cats, and they made it fun and educational. They painted (Covelli maybe a bit more literally as they are the artist/illustrator of the book) a picture of cats in simple text but that includes a lot of information. There are also little “sidebars” on the pages to clarify or add to the main text.
The art is just gorgeous. It is rich, deep colors and seriously, powerful. I saw the Maine Coon cat flopped on the owner’s lap as if I was that lap owner. I wanted to color the itty-bitty kittens. And I saw any cat that was my friend, or frenemy. I think even dog people could appreciate the wonders of the Cat.
I liked it. It is fun and factual, allowing casual lovers of felines to learn. And even if you do know a bit about your breed (B is for Breed) you might not know about other things. Therefore, you can enjoy a quiet minute or three browsing.
