When you see the title of the novel, The Meet-Cute Project by Rhiannon Richardson, that says it all.
This novel is a young adult Meet-Cute romance without any surprises story. It you like young adult romance, and meet-cute movies, read this book. If you do not, well you do not have to read this book. Yet, you might miss something and learn maybe you do like reading books like this. Or at least, Richardson’s novel.
I will say I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Still, this is not what I would call BEST BOOK EVER! (Not even in the top 50 favorites.) But, I will, however, say it was a fun read and perfect for the lover of the genre, and a light read for someone not into the genre.
Mia is a teen who has it all. And then some. A great family, an older sister getting married, the swim team, her friends, school and all her extra activities. What she does not have is a date for her sister’s wedding. CUE THE BESTIES DOING THE MEET CUTES!
To save Mia from the shame of having to be paired with the groom’s pre-teen brother or throwing the wedding pictures off with an “odd gal out,” her friends arrange for her to meet guys to ask to be her date to the wedding. Along the way, she argues with one of the potential dates, learns one is portably cheating on his girlfriend, and her first choice might be a frog instead of a prince. It is hopeless. Or is it?
Of course, you know the ins and outs of the story. Mia is going to find Prince Charming. It is going to be a meet-cute (only her way) and the project of the community garden she is working on will be down and dirty.
The predictability was nice. I enjoyed knowing there was going to be a happy ending, and nobody was going to be killed or maimed (unless I got my hands on bridezilla!). Ages at least twelve (there is drinking, the brides’ issues with the groom at the bachelorette party, etc.) can enjoy.
