This book is rightly subtitled: An Adventure. I approve of that. It is an adventure! Reading this book is like bringing childhood and games back into adulthood (though one of the characters is a teenager). And it also has really good character work on top of that.
Another way to describe this book is imagine if Ready Player One was set in the real world, and it was full of three-dimensional ladies and also ghosts: Boston multimillionaire dies, leaves game for the public, rewards the winners with money and opportunities.
This book made me want to go to Boston, first of all. I’ve never been!
Second of all, it was just fun. I don’t feel like writing a whole big treatise on it or anything, but I’m kicking myself for not reading this author sooner, because her first book has been on my TBR for aaaaages, and maybe now I will actually get to it.
Also, even though there is some minor romance in here for multiple characters, this book is more about friendship than anything else. And grief.
Do recommend.
