The other day my Facebook memories was flooded with “10 Most Memorable Books” lists from 7 years ago. Of the 10 books on my list, I would probably still include 3 today. Which got me thinking about the books I’ve read this summer, and which ones I think I will remember, revisit, or recommend as the years go by.
I think my most memorable books of the summer are going to be:
- Becky Chambers’ A Psalm for the Wild Built*. It hit me in exactly the right place and now I want to run away and become a tea monk.
- Penny Aimes’ For the Love of April French has me thinking a lot about the romance genre, how stories are told, and about whom.
I read three books that are parts of ongoing series I am enjoying, so I will revisit them:
- Kit Rocha’s The Devil You Know,
- Adrien Tchaikovsky’s Shards of Earth, and
- E.J. Beaton’s The Councillor.
The books that are coming out this fall that I’m going to recommend to people the most are:
- Skye Killaen’s hurt/comfort queer romance, Tell Me Anything,
- Zoraida Cordova’s The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina is going to be on a lot of best of 2021 lists, and
- Rebekah Weatherspoon’s contemporary “Beauty and the Beast” retelling, A Thorn in the Saddle*.
How is your summer reading going? What do you think will be most memorable? What are you likely to revisit? What do you hope other people will read? Was there a book you hated? Tell us in the comments.
