Honestly not sure what I’m about to type, because I don’t want to do a full review. I hadn’t re-read this book since it first came out and I knew I barely remembered it, and even the detailed summaries over on the Coppermind wouldn’t be good enough for to prep for book four. It really helped me when this book came out in 2017 that I had books one and two fresh in my mind from a recent re-read, so I got the audiobook from Audible and started in on this. It was just as good as I remembered it. I think I might have even liked it more because I knew where it was going the whole time. The last quarter of the novel remains an unbelievable rollercoaster of emotion and action. This book is like the wham bam set piece of the first five books of this series.
The audiobooks continue to be great. A fifty-five hour listening experience felt like much shorter than that. Kate Reading continues to be one of my favorite audiobook narrators, and her Pattern in particular makes me giggle. The infamous “no mating!” scene was even better in audio than it was in print. I can’t wait to see how she manages with what happens to Pattern and Shallan in book four, which I’ve already read as of writing this review.
Since I’m not going to say much more about the book itself, I will once again implore anyone who hasn’t yet read this series to read this series. It’s one of the most satisfying, and consistently so, reading experiences I’ve ever had.
