Now that the CBR12 Book Bingo Reading Challenge has begun, the hunt is on for books to fill squares. Some squares, like The Roaring 20’s and Money, are ripe for recommendations. All book recommendations are welcome, because what works for you for White Whale might be someone else’s Shelfie.
In the kick-off post, vel veeter got us started with some color in the title recommendations:
Often in book challenges, they use colors….which I find difficult to find. But I did some research:

Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
The Red and the Black by Stendhal

Then Malin posted her own list based on a color-coded challenge she’d been doing for the past few years.
I do a Colour Coded Reading Challenge every year, I have a lot of suggestions
Yellow: Half a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Red: Redshirts by John Scalzi, Red-headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells, The Girl with the Red Balloon by Katherine Locke, Scarlet by Marissa Meyer, Black Widow: Forever Red by Margaret Stohl
Orange: The Priory of Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Green: Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews (out in August), Gods of Jade and Shadow – Silvia Garcia-Moreno
Violet: The Color Purple – Alice Walker, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Over in the Cannonball Read Book Chat group on Facebook, Dome’Loki posted a link to a Popsugar article recommending authors debuting during the pandemic for the Debut square.
I thought I’d throw out a few books beyond the classics that would fulfill The Roaring 20’s square
Kerry Greenwood – Cocaine Blues (Phryne Fisher) (Mystery)
Victor LeValle – The Ballad of Black Tom (Horror, Fantasy)
Allie Therin – Spellbound (Mystery, Paranormal, m/m romance)
Sylvia Moreno-Garcia – Gods of Jade and Shadow (Sci-fi/Fantasy)
KJ Charles – Slippery Creatures (Mystery, M/m romance)
Sujata Massey – The Widows of Malabar Hill (Historical Fiction)
Franz Hessel – Walking in Berlin: a flaneur in the capital (Contemporaneous Non-fiction)
Valerie Boyd – Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life of Zora Neale Hurston (Non-fiction, Biography)
What do you recommend? Or are you looking for a recommendation?
And the good news is, all the books here and in the comments could count for the Cannonballer Says square!
