It’s my first “bingo”- the rightmost column! I wanted to replace Book Club because I jumped the gun and read all of our CannonBookClub options earlier this year. Oops! That’s what I get for getting impatient; the choices for #thefutureisqueer would have knocked out multiple squares! I also started (and in some cases, finished) a few series. Oh well, *shooting star* the more you know.
Speaking of “the more you know”, I accidentally came into this one over-prepared. Oops again! I’m pretty far into the Mary Roach collection, and I’m sure that Bonk would have blown my mind back in 2008 when it was first released, but I have since read/watched/listened to quite a few other entries into the “curious coupling of science and sex”, a lot of this information, as interesting as it may be, is a repeat for me. Often it felt like I was just “going through the motions”.
In other words Mary, it’s not you. It’s me.
Although, there is a detailed description of an intentional penis de-gloving, so there’s that.
I was hoping for a bit more information on attraction and sexuality, but the book focused mostly on the biology of sex organs. Fuuuun stuff. There were a few dirty details regarding all sorts of penis enlargement shenanigans, and some commentary regarding how difficult it is to fund research around sex unless it is specifically medical, but for the most part I was a bit bored!
Roach’s usual snark and wit felt a bit forced and a little old fashioned; she is known for her cheeky interjections, but she fell flat when commenting on sex- which was surprising. Bonus points to she and her husband, though- they got it on in an MRI machine- FOR SCIENCE!
