Ah, so you were expecting tips on saving up slivers of soap to make a whole bar so you can save about 26 cents every few months? This book isn’t really for you, then. It’s all about philosophy and habits of mind and wisdom that will lead you to naturally spend a lot less while enjoying life a whole lot more.
It’s a fairly short book, divided up into 51 little bite-sized chapters of delicious advice such as ‘Relish’ (from which the quote above was taken), ‘Remember the world of 1950s sci-fi’, and ‘It won’t be dull. We promise’. Some of the chapters do still have practical tips like getting around on a bike or foot instead of a car and always bringing a bag and a bottle of water with you, however, unlike most other books or articles about being frugal, there’s always an underlying tone of just having a good ole’ time. The writing makes you feel like the authors a bit cheeky, a bit subversive, and a hell of a lot of fun to be around.
