So many poo-poo astrology. I used to be one of those people. Three-ish years ago, I began venturing into spirituality, something I had hidden away for over a decade due to terrible experiences with the Catholic Church and scrupulosity (Another story for another day.) With this journey, I discovered the true nature of astrology – not the boiled-down, pop culture fluff – rather, a tool for self-reflection and discovery, based on age-old studies of human nature and the energy of the universe.
Through my journey, I had merely grazed the surface of astrology. I knew my sun sign (Aries) and my Ascendant (Leo), but that was the extent. In 2020, I set out to learn more. Enter You Were Born For This. I’ve been following Chani Nicholas for over a year, and I respect her quest for social and political activism using astrology. When I saw she had recently written a book, I knew I wanted to support her cause. I hoped I might gain some knowledge in the process. Little did I know that this book was just what I had been yearning for.
In the prologue, Nicholas tells of her childhood and discovering astrology. Right out of the gate, it is apparent why she has over 1 million followers. Her writing is painfully beautiful, deeply insightful, and refreshingly real.
Then, the fun begins. Nicholas recommends a highlighter, water and snacks, a journal, and your birth chart, which you can get for free on her website. (https://chart.chaninicholas.com/) From that point on, the book is written in a “Choose Your Own Adventure” style. The book and chart are laid out as perfect partners, making it easy to find exactly what you need.
I read through the entire book in one setting. Now I look forward to going back and work-shopping each section. I highly recommend you do the same. Now. Do it. You won’t regret it.
