Do you love Oscar the Grouch? Then get his book, The Pursuit of Grouchiness: Oscar the Grouch’s Guide to Life on how to be a good… I mean bad… Grouch!
This is a counter book: a gem at the checkout you see and know it is the perfect “little something” you needed to fill out your gift for Uncle Bob or that pesky high schooler who is just graduating. Or you are one of millions of kids who asked, “Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?” and know you just have to learn every nugget of wisdom from the Master Grouch himself: Oscar.
Now, 160 pages and a handful of gems from Oscar do not a 250-word review make. Or do they? As there is much going on in this little book. This is obviously not your typical feel-good guide to life or “happy little quotes” to get you through your day, but just the opposite so we who do not always want sugary sweetness will appreciate that sometimes you need to be a Grouch. But if you love being Grouchy, how can you not be happy when being Grouchy? Yet, after I mention that Oscar is as grouchy as ever and his words are very amusing you would think that was it. But it is not. The photographs and art, along with favorite Sesame Street characters (such as Elmo and Slimey the Worm) are worth the price of admission. You can just imagine what each one is saying (or not saying in the case of Slimey, but boy does that little guy say a lot with not saying anything) and you can make up your own story, too.
Yes, grownups, you can make up your own story, but why would you? Our Guru Oscar says it all!
Of course, you can continue the love with Cookie Monster’s The Joy of Cookies and Bert and Ernie’s Importance of Being Ernie (and Bert) (which is on the TBR list).
