I wanted to like this more than I did. It gets three stars because the front half is amazing. I’ll talk about what I didn’t like in the spoiler section.
I’ve had this on my kindle for a long time, but there was always something I wanted to read more. In response to Harry and Megan’s engagement, people started bringing this book up again and I thought it would be a fun, light read.
An American, Rebecca “Bex” Porter decides to do a semester abroad at Oxford. One of the students in her college/living quarters is Nick, 2nd in line to the British throne. Nick and Bex become friends and then more than friends and her semester becomes 2 years. They have gathered around them a tight circle of friends, including Bex’ twin sister Lacey and Nick’s brother Freddy.
I enjoyed the writing. Cocks and Morgan are smart and breezy writers who keep things moving along with generally charming characters. I hope they write another book together, because I don’t think I’ll read this one again.
Spoilers
The stuff I didn’t like is all spoiler territory. I hated the love triangle with Freddy. I hated it with a fiery passion. I hated the first kiss and the second kiss and the bonus chapter. I hated that Nick was gone for most of their engagement. I wanted to see how Nick was a better boyfriend once they reconciled. I wanted to see Bex and Nick against The Firm. It would have meant different challenges, but there was plenty of room for different challenges than Freddy and Nick’s absence.
