While my wife and many (most?) of my friends love The Gilmore Girls and/or Parenthood, I’m not a fan of either show. However, I am a huge fan of Lauren Graham. She’s charming, funny, and a heck of a writer. Her novel, Someday, Someday Maybe, is one of my favorites of the last few years, and I highly recommend the audiobook. 
Even though Talking as Fast as I Can is written primarily for fans of Graham’s show, I enjoyed the audiobook just to hear Lauren Graham talk about life, writing, and Hollywood.
Graham talks about her somewhat eclectic childhood, and her love for her parents is obvious. In fact, I teared up when she read her Acknowledgments section at the end of the audiobook. Her playful relationship with her dad is apparent in his brief audiocameo. She also talks about her early days in theatre and Broadway. Her midatlantic accent in that section of the book was probably my favorite part of the book.
In light of all of the recent Hollywood scandals, it was interested to hear her talk about her first audition in which she was semi-nude. While she says everyone acted professionally in the audition, she was in tears afterwards. What a weird business.
Graham also discusses her press tour for her novel. It bothered her that a lot of interviewers didn’t seem to believe that she could write a novel by herself. Maybe they thought she was too pretty and/or dumb to be able to tell a story. That’s a weird supposition, considering actors live and breathe stories for a living.
If you’re a fan of anything Lauren Graham has touched, I recommend this book. It’s nice to be able to spend time with her – it’s like sitting down with an old friend.
