This was book #2 of yesterday’s “needing some light reading while sick” double header. I picked this up based on CBR reviews because so many of you loved it.
Lesson learned: y’all know what you’re talking about. This was a perfect sickday book (except for how late I stayed up to finish it).
Lucy and Josh are workplace rivals, both administrative assistants to publishing house CEOs, thrown into the same office after a company merger. The loathe each other, but of course all is not as it seems and it’s a book of slow burn hate-to-love romance.
I always have a slight twinge about the love/hate dynamic in books… on one hand, I find it pretty unrealistic, sometimes bordering on frustrating (a tiny piece of me always wants to scream, “why are you falling for someone who is so mean to you?!”, or “why are you being so mean to him, clearly he loves you!!”)…. but it’s SUCH a great literary device for building tension and suspense, and I can never put these books down. And in the case of Lucy and Josh, they’re just so….fun. While they hate each other, their initial interactions aren’t so much ‘mean’ as they are witty and snarky. As their relationship shifts, and they genuinely start to reveal their feelings, they are so amusing to read.
This is a new favourite that is going to straight into the re-read pile.
