This is my cat, Freya:
Don’t be fooled by her incredible cuteness; if you look closely around the eyes you can see the crazy demon hell-beast lurking within. Freya is seven pounds of psychotic, terrifying cat piss just waiting to soil your favorite pair of shoes….or in my case, anything that looks like it could remotely cost me my security deposit.
For almost two years, roommate faintingviolet and I have endured a perpetual minefield of pee-pee pads and decoy litter boxes shoved in what we hoped were all of Freya’s favorite marking spots. We also lived with the constant aroma of that oh-so-fragrant ammonia a la cat since pee-pee pads were far too common for Princess Demon Hell-beast. Lucky for us, modern pharmaceuticals mean even cats can be cured of intense social anxiety….or in Freya’s case, general demon hell-beastiness, and five milligrams of human Prozac per day has (mostly) damned the flow.
Freya’s anxiety-peeing and her new status as the resident Prozac-cat has become a topic of fun and general hilarity among our friend group, which led to crystalclear gifting me this lovely coffee table book for Christmas.
As a person who has some issues getting through books of poetry, this was exactly what I needed. These adorable poems are all about a page long and funny as sh*t for anyone who’s ever owned a cat. Some of my favorites included the title-holder “I Could Pee on This”, along with “This is My Chair,” “No,” and “Kublah Kat.” Each poem has a corresponding photo of an adorable jerk-face cat doing whatever it is the poem’s talking about.
It’s all very tongue-in-cheek, and even though a few of the poems were a little silly and seemed put in there to take up page space, the majority of the poems are cute, funny, and quality writing.
If you’ve ever owned a cat, I highly recommend cracking this open and not just leaving it on your coffee table.
4 stars.
