So I came home from a long day at work yesterday to find a pick-up slip in the postbox, but as the weather is both very humid and rather cold at the moment, there is a thin film of ice coating the ground, making it pretty much lethal to walk anywhere at all. Hence, once I was actually indoors, I had no plans of leaving again, even with the enticement of books waiting for me at the post office.
Today, I put my trusty crampons on my winter boots (you’d better believe I have multiple sets after concussing myself and breaking my arm last year) and trudged over to the shops to get my parcel (which turned out to be WAY bigger than I’d expected). Packed in a sturdy cardboard box, secured with so much tape (not exactly what you want when you’re impatient to get at your goodies).
I should have taken photos to show exactly how I found everything packaged, because that was a joy in itself. On top of golden-coloured tissue paper was a lovely card from Mathilde, who wrote me a lovely greeting in Danish. Once I opened up the wealth of tissue paper, I found four teabags wrapped in gold ribbon, magnetic page markers (so cute), chocolate covered licorice with chili (they look to be spicy, I hope I can handle them), little golden wire baubles and two beautiful books. I only own Jane Steele in audio, but it’s one of my very favourite books of the year and having my own physical copy makes me so happy. I’ve heard nothing but awesome things about This One Summer and can’t wait to put it on my reading list for next year.
It’s been a pretty dark and depressing season so far, ending a truly dire 2016. Getting this amazing care package warms my heart and provides positivity and happiness in what is otherwise a rather trying time. I love this community, I love the Book Exchange and I am so happy with my swag, Mathilde! Tusen takk på det hjerteligste! Another shout-out to Katie, our own Faintingviolet, who does such a great job arranging all this joyful gifting.
