Wax is about a town called Paraffin, Vermont, and how some of its residents were murdered and replaced with wax figures. It’s also really, really funny.
One of the residents, Poppy, was disgraced on a nationally televised talent show. She throws herself into serving as president of the drama club, the Giddy Committee. After her biggest bully pulls yet another prank on her, Poppy visits the local candle factory to get to the bottom of things. She ends up meeting a mysterious old woman who spouts some crazy things, gives her a candle, and later dies in a fire. She also sent a bodyguard, a wax teenage boy that Poppy calls Dud.
Soon, Poppy starts to notice her neighbors acting strange and waxy. She now has to convince her parents that Dud is a foreign exchange student, put on a broadway revival with her club, and figure out how to stop the evil candle factory owners from killing and replacing the town. Thankfully, if anyone can do all that, it’s Poppy.
