I followed Gaffigan’s Dad is Fat with his other book — Food: A Love Story. This one should reach an even wider audience, since who doesn’t like to eat?
“I’m convinced that anyone who doesn’t like Mexican food is a psychopath.”
“There’s an old Weight Watchers saying: “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” I for one can think of a thousand things that taste better than thin feels. Many of them are two-word phrases that end with cheese (Cheddar cheese, blue cheese, grilled cheese). Even unsalted French fries taste better than thin feels. Ever eat fries without salt on them? I always think, These could use some salt, but that would mean I’d have to get up and move. I guess I’ll just imagine there’s salt on them.”
Same, Jim. Food: A Love Story is exactly that — an ode to all the things Gaffigan likes to eat. I don’t necessarily agree with all of Mr. Gaffigan’s opinions (he hates fruit, he likes bleu cheese…not sure which I find more offensive) but I appreciate that he shares them with us. And with such organization! The chapters are sorted by food types, geographical location and the book mentions quite a few places by name. As a person who likes to eat, I think Jim & I would be friends — other than the bleu cheese thing.
