Our Cannonballers have made their voices heard, and we will be reading Doomsday Book by Connie Willis for our June 1st Book Club Reads Science Fiction.
From the first twenty-four hours of the vote this book has been in the lead, but books two and three; Lagoon by Nnedi Okarafor and The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin gave chase. I’m adding all three to my to read list, and hope that if your choice wasn’t our final choice, that you’ll make the time to read both.
I look forward to reading this book and chatting about it with all of you come June 1st. I’ll be posting a Discussion Topics post two weeks before our discussion. Visit us here on the group blog or in our Facebook Cannonball Read Book Chat group.
As a reminder, here’s the synopsis of our choice:
Doomsday Book by Connie Willis
- For Kivrin, preparing an on-site study of one of the deadliest eras in humanity’s history was as simple as receiving inoculations against the diseases of the fourteenth century and inventing an alibi for a woman traveling alone. For her instructors in the twenty-first century, it meant painstaking calculations and careful monitoring of the rendezvous location where Kivrin would be received. But a crisis strangely linking past and future strands Kivrin in a bygone age as her fellows try desperately to rescue her. In a time of superstition and fear, Kivrin–barely of age herself–finds she has become an unlikely angel of hope during one of history’s darkest hours.
And don’t forget, you can also always look through the Science Fiction tag here at the Cannonball Read for more suggestions. Find out what books we discussed in the past and watch for info on upcoming titles on our Book Club page.
