So many cannonballers have raved about this romance series that I had to see what all the fuss was about. So glad I gave it a chance! I’m picky about romance, especially contemporary novels, but Bowen is a thoughtful writer who quickly drew me into the relationship between Corey and Adam.
It’s Corey’s first year at Harkness College (basically a stand-in for Yale or Harvard) and she’s still dealing with a hockey accident that left her paralyzed less than a year ago. She was supposed to be playing hockey and now she’s left treading water, trying to find her place in the world. She falls head over heels for her neighbor Adam, also relegated to the handicap accessible dorm due to a stupid accident that left his leg badly broken. Unfortunately, Adam already has the “perfect” girlfriend. Still, Adam and Corey bond over their shared “gimp” status.
I liked how realistic this story felt. Yes, they’re both college students and trying to figure out how to navigate tricky situations, but they’re normal, well-adjusted people for the most part. I loved how frank the characters were about their disabilities. I have a friend in a wheelchair and it’s crazy how much energy he has to put into just being able to get around. It’s honestly exhausting and this story felt true to that. Very excited to see where the next story in the series goes!
