So, I’m a completist when it comes to things. Especially bad romance novel series. So when I found out the bad romance novel I read the other week for a distraction was part of a trilogy… well this is the end result. I read two more bad romance novels. This time Born in Ice and Born in Shame. Yes, those may be two of the worst titles ever for books, and no, neither of them deserve their own separate review. So here’s books 6 and 7 for me this year. Ugh.
Born in Ice revolves around the sister of Born in Fire, Brianna. She runs an inn in rural Ireland, and takes in a thriller novelist for a couple of months while he writes his latest book. Blah blah blah she has family problems, he’s a loner, some good hot loving etc until about 15 pages from the end Brianna has a terrible car accident and gets hurt. Not enough to really be permanently harmed, but just enough to shake up all the characters. It was painfully formulaic, but harmless.
Born in Shame is the conclusion of the trilogy and is the story of Shannon, the previous two heroines’ illegitimate half sister, huzzah! As her mother dies she tells Shannon the truth about who her father actually is, while at the same time her sisters investigator finds her, so she heads to Ireland to search for her roots and just maybe a family. There she meets Murphy, surrogate brother to her sisters, and magically (because it’s Ireland) the love of her life from the first moment they meet (mysticism and fairies!).
Yes, both of these books were as trite as they sound. Yes, I know I wasted two days reading them. But the obsessive monster within is now sated. I know what happens to every character. Now on to the next romance series!
