Do you enjoy 1980s professional wrestling, indie comics, social media, metal, fantasy, and juvenile humor? Yes? Then For the Title is the book for you! As you can probably tell from the book cover, this is a silly comic. It tells the story of a man called Warrior. He receives a dream visit from a ghost called Macho Ghost. The Macho Ghost needs Warrior to win “the belt” so that Warrior gets a “Champion Wish”. The Champion Wish can let you do anything! Warrior can even wish to bring Macho Ghost back to life. The guys go on a vision quest, fighting many famous 1980s wrestlers along the way. Will Warrior succeed? Will Macho Man come back? Buy this book to find out!
Interestingly enough, this comic started as a series of Instagrammed panels by Lance Schibi & Austin Green. I don’t even know how one would find out about their Instagram account or this series. Luckily, 122 worthy Kickstarter backers helped bring us all a hardbound collection of this comic. Equally lucky, a buddy went to a local indie media expo and the authors had a table set up. Since I am an avid wrestling fan, my buddy bought it as a gift for me. I have been trying to tell all my nerdy friends about it ever since. This book is everything I love about comics and indie stuff and pro wrestling. It’s creative, silly, funny, and it even has a plot! No normal publisher would ever print this, but in 2016 we don’t need a normal publisher; we have each other. Buy the book here. (It’s not on Amazon.)
While you are in a buying mood, click the link at the top of the page to buy If You Want to Write by Brenda Ueland. It’s only a couple of bucks, but it’s one of my all-time favorites about “art, independence, and spirit.” Who doesn’t love those things?!?
